Letter of Life
"Hey Naina, it appears there is a letter for you," sister says loudly, thanking the postman.
"In this modern world, who writes a letter? They can even email you unless they don't have your email address but a postal address," sister jokes as she hands the letter to Naina.
Naina was astounded to find a letter in her hands.
She waits until her sister leaves the room before gently tearing open the cover to read the letter.
"Hello, Naina," the handwritten letter begins.
I realize this is the most unusual method, and it's also probably the most out-of-date. In this day and age of WhatsApp, SMS, and email, I chose this form of communication with you. But it is also the deepest and purest way for me to express my feelings and emotions.
It was a typical morning for me with college friends, having fun and making plans for weekend trips, when I saw you driving a yellow Vespa. All on Earth came to a halt, including my heartbeat: your aura, the radiance on your face, the adorable expression of waving hello to your friends, your sweet smile, and your delicateness.
Trust me, believe me, I felt as though an angel had descended on earth just for me. I was completely engrossed in the universe you'd created, where only you and I were experiencing life while the rest of the world was frozen in time before I was punched in the stomach by a friend, who brought me back to reality.
Hey, I know I sound more like Romeo, Ranjaa, or some other famous/infamous lover in the world or on the corner of a random street lane. Please, however, stick with me until the end. I am not a Bollywood/Hollywood hero who can charm with his grooves and looks.
I'm just another guy in your college who dared to express his feelings to you in the way you like.
When we became friends, I learned more about you. The day we became friends was my luckiest day, and it gave me a strong reason to live more for you than for myself.
You love nature. You have a strong desire to explore by traveling. You value freedom and independence, hence you are not addicted to technology or mobile devices. You still enjoy talking on the fixed landline. You enjoy reading and spend your free time at the library reading books.
Even though your family is not vegetarian, you are a strict vegetarian who prefers to cook on your own. You believe that all life has the right to live. Be it human beings or animals or even trees.
Naina. Every morning when I wake up, my heart longs to see you, hear your smile, and feel the warmth of your hug, and every night when I close my eyes to sleep, my heart yearns to live one more day with you and share another day of life with you.
You, I believe, are the reason for my birth. I would commit my entire life and every moment to you and only you. You gave my soul a reason to live and my heart a reason to live.
Naina. I promise to live a pure life, love deeply, and care for you unconditionally. I promise to be your soulmate in all situations and conditions until the rest of eternity.
You aren't a part of my life; you are my complete life.
I'll be waiting for you on May 5th at our favorite spot, watching the sunrise to sunset.
Arnav. Truly yours till eternity.
Naina's eyes welled up as she read the message. Today is May 5th. She too liked Arnav. She took her helmet and keys and drove to their favorite spot, a bench on a hilltop having a panoramic view of the city.
She arrived just in time before sunset. Arnav ran towards Naina when he saw her. They wrapped their arms around each other tightly.
"I love you," Arnav says softly.
"I love you, too," Naina says shyly.
Both kissed with a beautiful sunset in the background.
When Naina was experiencing the most beautiful moment of love, Arnav typed a message to his friend quietly, "Bird is in the cage."
(Message - Never fall in love or commit with anyone instantly. Beware of such love traps)
